Goodlord deletes misleading Information Sheet website guidance

The error was spotted ahead of the 31st May deadline for the Government’s new Information Sheet to be given to tenants.

Information sheet
Goodlord has quietly removed ‘confusing’ information about the new mandatory tenant information sheet from its website.

The error was spotted by letting agent Paul Lee, of London-based Paul Lee & Company.

It comes ahead of the 31st May deadline for the Government’s new Information Sheet to be given by landlords and their agents to tenants.

Missing this deadline – which is just days away – could result in a fine of up to £7,000.

Costly mistake

Lee told The Neg: “You can’t give that information without fact checking. It is scare tactics and it is wrong – and a potentially costly mistake.”

On its website, Goodlord had claimed that the How To Rent Guide for Assured Shorthold Tenancies had been replaced by the Information Sheet.

However, the Information Sheet is only for existing tenants who are transitioning with the change of the law to an assured periodic tenancy.

Renters’ Rights Act

The Official Information Sheet explains to tenants how they will be affected by the changes introduced by the Renters’ Rights Act.

It covers changes to Section 21 notices, increasing rents, changes to fixed terms, ending a tenancy, student lets and keeping a pet.

It must be given out if the tenancy is an Assured Shorthold Tenancy, was created before 1st May 2026 or has a wholly or partly written record of terms – including a written tenancy agreement.

Meanwhile, the How to Rent Guide has been withdrawn and has not been replaced by the Information Sheet.

The Information Sheet is only for existing tenants, and it is not for new tenants.

The content was removed as soon as this was identified.”

The Written Statement of Terms is for new tenants or existing tenants without an existing tenancy agreement.

A spokesperson for Goodlord said: “We have reviewed the blog post and recognise that the wording relating to the Renters’ Rights Act Information Sheet caused confusion.

“The content was removed as soon as this was identified and the blog has been updated accordingly.”
