A former high-flying Sequence area director has joined estate agency Spicerhaart to head up its Welsh and SW England operation, saying it’s the company’s recently-launched hybrid approach that attracted him.

Matt Barrett started his career at Countrywide in Wiltshire before starting a 21-year career at Connells estate agency network Sequence where he worked in both Leeds and Cardiff.

“There’s been a raging debate for years about whether the high street model or online estate agency model is most effective,” he says.

“Spicerhaart is taking some of the best elements of the high street and integrating them with a more online, hybrid model.

At Sequence, Barrett started out in junior role, rose to branch manager within three years and, when he left recently, had been running 20 Allen & Harris estate agency branches along the M4 corridor from Oxford to Cardiff for several years.

Swindon to Plymouth

His new official title is Estate Agency Director, West & Wales with responsibility for Darlows branches in Wales and Haart branches from Swindon to Plymouth.

In each region of the UK Spicerhaart will soon have a senior representative leading both the local partnership operation and the traditional branches; known as Estate Agent Directors.

Barrett says: “It really resonates with me that, through one of the most stressful times people can go through in finding a new home, we are ensuring we are as helpful and making it as smooth as possible.”
