Roger Barrett, Connells Group

Industry senior Roger Barrett, Connells Group’s Land & New Homes Managing Director, is celebrating a whopping 40 years with the business this month.

Since joining the firm as a sales negotiator in 1983, Barrett has enjoyed a varied and successful career, becoming a Land Director in 1989, promoted to its Residential Board in 2008 and taking responsibility for the Group’s Land & New Homes operation in 2019.

Barrett says: “When I walked into Connells in February 1983 to start my first job, I had no idea at the time what an opportunity it was or where it would take me.

PEOPLE

“I realised from the outset that Connells is primarily a people business, and if you take every opportunity you are given, then a fantastic career can lie ahead. Fast forward 40 years, and I now oversee the entire land and new homes operation for Connells, Sequence, Countrywide, Hamptons and John D. Wood & Co – that’s quite some progression!”

And he adds: “Over the years, I have seen numerous changes in the housebuilding sector and have had the privilege of working with countless business partners, many of whom have become good friends.

EXPERIENCE

“Being part of Connells Group continues to be a great experience and a lot of fun too, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of all the managers, partners and directors of this truly unique business.”

David Plumtree, Connells

David Plumtree, Connells Group’s Chief Executive (Estate Agency), says: “This is an outstanding milestone for Roger and a perfect example of the boundless opportunities for career progression here at Connells Group.

“Roger has made a huge impact to our business over the years, and we thank him for his continued service and dedication.”

  1. For every high flying highly paid senior executive in Corporate Estate Agency megastructures there are thousands of talented property professionals who deserve to & would love to slide up the greasy pole. Sadly only a tiny percentage will. Small fish in massive ponds rarely get the rewards they deserve. Working for an independent or ideally setting one up, massively increases the chances of getting the handsome rewards that hard work & enterprise in agency can bring and I speak from fifty years of experience.
