An extraordinary fund-raising effort by the property industry for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) has raised nearly £70,000.

A small army of 200 estate agents including many well-known figures and several celebrities from the UK and overseas all committed to run, job or walk 100 kilometres for the charity between Boxing Day last year and the end of January and raise money at the same time.

The #BHF100K challenge, which was organised by Pygott & Crone estate agents in Lincolnshire, asked the industry participants to track their progress using Strava and other fitness apps.

Notable people taking part included the directors of Pygott & Crone; estate agency coaches Peter Knight, Josh Phegan and Julian O’Dell; Simon Whale of Kerfuffle; Yvonne Martin of Agents Giving and former Reapit boss Gary Barker.

Others included Stephen Hayter of MyHomeMove, Damon Bullimore of BriefYourMarket, Ben Ridgeway and Jamie Cooke of Iamproperty, Samantha Jones of Moneypenny, Sandra Jones of Dataloft and Kristjan Byfield of Base Property.

“Many of the people taking part have had family members affected by heart and circulatory disease.

“I was particularly touched by the story of Andrea Catley, a fellow estate agent from Somerset.

“Her daughter suffered a heart attack on Boxing Day 2019, and the following Easter her fiancé was also rushed to hospital with arterial fibrillation.

“Andrea was inspired to change her lifestyle, started jogging, and subsequently joined the #BHF100K challenge, raising £3,500.”

All participants were invited to a virtual thank-you event hosted by the British Heart Foundation on Wednesday 10th February between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
