Lettings platform hires Uber executive to grow business in UK
New Chief Operating Officer for Spotahome is brought on board to emulate taxi apps' success in UK medium-let rental market.
A Spanish lettings platform with over 4,400 rental properties listed in the UK has recruited a former senior Uber executive to the business.
Spotahome.com has been running for a year in Greater London and offers a listings service to landlords and letting agents, and a smartphone app to tenants.
The business has been joined by smartphone-based taxi app Uber’s former European head of operation Cleo Sham, who will be looking after its operations across half a dozen cities in Europe including key markets London and Madrid.
At Uber Sham was responsible for growing the ride sharing app’s business in China.
Spotahome is in the process of opening an office in London and is hiring 200 people as it prepares to make an assault on the UK rental market.
“Her exhaustive experience of scaling one of the most formidable start-ups in recent history in a challenging market, and her knowledge of harnessing new growth strategies that are lean and creative will benefit Spotahome’s mission,” say CEO and founder Alejandro Artacho (left).
“We are humbled to have such a talented businessperson join us, someone who will undoubtedly make an immediate impact on our processes and communications to build a stronger and more focused global team.”
Spotahome offers tenants the ability to rent properties or rooms in the UK and says its average tenancy is six months. Depending on landlord or letting agency choice, renters are able to secure tenancies via its app for a minimum of a month at a time, and charges landlords 6% of the total value of a booking.
