Hybrid agency says it has not spoken to Purplebricks directly, and isn't about to make a bid for the beleaguered estate agency.

Potential Purplebricks bidder Strike has hit out after the struggling agency released a statement suggesting it was a serious buyer.

Strike, which is a rival firm, says it has not spoken to Purplebricks directly and is not in a formal sale process.

The company was also surprised that Purplebricks revealed an enquiry had been made by Strike without informing it first.

In a statement to the Stock Exchange, Purplebricks said it was in talks with Strike about a possible offer.

Purplebricks put itself up for sale last month in an apparent admission that a management turnaround plan wasn’t working.

Strike was said be frustrated by a non-disclosure agreement that was thought to be preventing discussions with would-be backers.

“We are also surprised the announcement was not shared with us prior to release.”

“We have talked to [Purplebricks’] advisers PwC as to what the process involves, but have not had any direct conversation with the company and have not entered the process,” a Strike spokesperson said in a comment released to The Times.

“We are also surprised the announcement was not shared with us prior to release.”

Deadline

Strike has been given a deadline of 28 days until 12 April to put in a formal offer or withdraw.

The Purplebricks statement read: “Purplebricks notes the recent press speculation regarding a possible offer for the company by Strike Limited,” the statement said.

“Purplebricks confirms that it has been in discussions with Strike regarding their potential participation in the formal sale process announced on 1 March 2023.”

Earlier this year, Sam Mitchell, CEO at Strike (main picture), confirmed that some staff were being released as it ‘adjusted to the market’.

It is considered one of the top three hybrid agencies, behind Purplebricks and with Yopa.
