Money, money, money… They say it’s a rich man’s world, but when it comes to selling houses should agents be paid individual commissions?

That’s the burning question for the self-proclaimed Great And The Good of the Property Industry as we delve into day five of their latest video instalment.

The Neg has been reporting on all week on November’s fireside style chat which was co-ordinated by Russell Quirk, Co-Founder of ProperPR and The Giggs Group Founder Matt Giggs.

We began Monday with claims that Rightmove has created an industry of phone call takers; talked about whether agents are capable of achieving higher fees on Tuesday; door knocking and the prospect of Russell Quirk being tasered on Wednesday and yesterday how the days of agents merely relying on Rightmove to sell property are long gone. At least for now.

COMMISSIONS

We end the week with our panel pondering paying agents individual commissions.

Should it be dependent upon where the agent is based? And, of course, Adam Day, UK Country Leader at eXp, makes the case for a self-employed commission ’split’ approach.

There’s some feisty opinions shared with Agents Together Chief Executive Sarah Edmundson saying there’s no way she would run a commission only business in London.

“I want you all to make £100k this year, and the rest,” she says. “But you have to do daily stuff to get there.

“You can’t just assume you are going to earn £100k just because you put a board up outside a house.”

Indeed, and as Russell Quirk is quick to point out: “If you want to win the lottery, buy a ticket.”

Running at 23 minutes and 18 seconds the panel also includes Peter Rollings, former CEO and current board member at Foxtons; Gemma Noonan, Operations Director at The Giggs Group; and Mark Burgess, Chief Executive at Iceberg Digital and software CRM, Lifesycle.
