Agents selling 3,000 homes a day and it’s going to get busier!
The number of homes being sold by agents has gone up by 7% over the past 12 months, according to research by Moverly.
Estate agents’ sales volumes have reached their highest level in two years and the outlook is improving and the numbers rising even faster at the tail end of 2024 says Moverly boss Gemma Young (pictured).
The company’s research shows that, in total, there were 1.09 million property sales in 2024. That’s a daily average of 2,984 and is the highest UK daily transaction average since 2022 (3,447) and marks an annual increase of 6.8%.
Late boost
But this figure remains behind the pre-pandemic norms which saw more than 3,200 daily transactions each day between 2014 and 2019.
Despite this, Moverly believes that a late boost in sales towards the end of the year indicates that agents could well be in for a busy first quarter of 2025 as buyer confidence returns.
Estate agents are likely to face an increased workload this year, and perhaps even the heaviest load in many years.”
In October there were 3,590 sales per day and 3,481 in November, which were some way above the 2024 average of 2,984. And, in previous years, the peaks tended to come much earlier.
England and Northern Ireland both saw the largest annual upticks at 6.9%. In Scotland, sales volumes increased by 6.8% and, in Wales, the rise was 5.6%.
Moverly founder Gemma Young says: “Estate agents are likely to face an increased workload this year, and perhaps even the heaviest load in many years should Labour manage to incentivise homebuying in the way they hope to with increased supply, more accessible mortgages, and a stronger national economy.”
“Agents already work incredibly hard, so taking on more work is not always going to be easy.”
