What’s the UK’s favourite property porn programme? The answer is here…
We can all remember when there was just one - Location, Location, Location. Now there are dozens, and showing 24/7 – but which are our favourites?
We can all remember when there was just one – Location, Location, Location. That show opened a Pandora’s Box of TV property porn, which has become mainstream TV in the UK – and around the western world.
So which show is the UK’s favourite?
Step forward Kevin McCloud and Grand Designs. It is of course, the most engaging, as we watch couple after couple put themselves through amateur builder hell, to achieve a home we would all die for. And which nearly killed the people who built it.
Second place took the Kirsty & Phil formula on holiday – A Place in the Sun. But they shared it with the most eccentric and magical family, also expats, Angel, Dick, Arthur and Dorothy, of Escape to the Chateau.
The study was put together by Hammonds Furniture which polled 2000 UK adults, also pulling in IMDb’s rating to produce a nation’s favourite top ten.
And here it is:
1. Grand Designs (Channel4 / All4)
2. A Place in the Sun (Channel4 / All4) & Escape to the Chateau (Channel4 / All4)
3. Homes Under the Hammer (BBC) & DIY SOS (BBC)
4. Escape to the Country (BBC)
5. George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces (Channel4 / All4)
6. Location, Location, Location (Channel4 / All4)
7. The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes (BBC)
8. Property Brothers (W Network)
9. Love it or List it (Channel4 / All4)
10. Marriage or Mortgage (Netflix)
Dennis Relojo-Howell, Managing Director of psychology website Psychreg, explained why the nation loves this genre of television so much: “We love to see spaces given new life on TV because we all have areas of our homes that we hope to transform,
It’s simply because as humans we’re just plain old curious, and we always look for ideas.”
“Aside from reorganising our homes, we are also drawn to property platforms; we spend time on Rightmove or Zoopla for fantasy window shopping or perhaps just to see what’s on offer. It’s simply because as humans we’re just plain old curious, and we always look for ideas. And, more importantly, because we need to dream.”
Any one of the top ten will be playing on a streaming platform near you, right now.
