Staff at a rural estate agency in North Yorkshire have become the latest but unexpected stars of TV reality shows after the launch of a new programme following their sales exploits in the county.

Called Dales for Sale, it features agents Richard Thompson and Marcus Alderson of Richmond firm Marcus Alderson along with colleagues Carla, Rosie and Sue (pictured) all of whom specialise in selling properties in and around Richmond.

This includes many of the world-famous dales including Swaledale, Arkengarthdale, Wensleydale and Coverdale.

First shown last week on the Really TV channel with the second episode aired over the weekend, the channel says the show has proved an unexpected hit both in the UK and overseas.

The show also reveals the unusual clientele who the agency services with predictably plenty of Londoners chugging up from the capital to view holiday homes but also wannabe buyer from Mexico, somewhat bizarrely.

But, as local media have pointed out, such an influx of cash while good for the bottom line of Marcus Alderson, is one of the factors making the Dales increasingly unaffordable for locals.

“The market here is still busy with buyers from all over the country and abroad and places that were once seen as remote are now becoming popular,” Thompson told The Yorkshire Post.

“Homeowners are happy to see the price of their home rising but the worry is in retaining the younger generation because the average price of a terrace house is about £200,000. We need more affordable housing and that needs to be addressed.”
