New Selling Sunset series prompts surge of wannabe estate agents in UK
The salaries may be missing noughts, but the new series of US TV show Selling Sunset has prompted new interest in becoming an agent here too.

The latest series of TV show Selling Sunset has prompted a surge in people interested in becoming an estate agent, it has been claimed.
While the show has little connection with the real world of selling or letting homes in the UK the glamour, high salaries, even higher heels of its female stars and jaw-dropping mansions have prompted a surge in Google searches for ‘how to be an estate agent’ and ‘how much does an estate agent earn’.
The searches, which for one phrase jumped two-fold, took place over the weekend as the latest series of the reality TV show kicked off, reports GetAgent.
The agent comparison site itself is no stranger to TV. One of its backers is Channel 4 TV, which has broadcast several wannabe Selling Sunset shows including Britain’s Most Expensive Homes, but also comedy Stath Lets Flats.
Reality check
“It’s been amazing to see the increased interest in becoming an estate agent following the release of the latest season of the show.
“However it’s important to remember that working as an estate agent in the UK might not look exactly like the day-to-day life of Chrishell or Christine,” says Colby Short (pictured), CEO and Co-Founder of GetAgent.
He points out that the average estate agent salary in the UK is between £30,000 and £40,000, well short of the ‘colossal commissions’ earned by those working for the agency featured in the programme, the Oppenheim Group.
“Estate agents in the UK can achieve an abundant, successful and rewarding career, with many earning high salaries and selling homes to some of the most high-flying people in the country,” adds Short.
“And there’s nothing to stop you injecting some outrageous outfits and a little drama into your life as an estate agent, Selling-Sunset-style.”
