New Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz was supported in his famous win by his father, who is a former estate agent, it has emerged.

Alcaraz won the Men’s singles final at the All England Club on Sunday beating reigning champion Novak Djokovic.

His Dad, Carlos Alcaraz González, who was in the crowd, used to run an estate agent firm in the family’s home village of El Palmar in Murcia, not far from Alicante in southern Spain.

He also ran a local tennis academy where his son trained to become the world no 1 player and now Wimbledon champion.

The family live in a modest two-floor penthouse above a kebab shop, and Carlos Junior still returns there between tournaments.

Alcaraz is the youngest player to ever become no1 at the age of just 19 last year, and he won his first grand slam at the US Open in September.

His Dad, who used to be a tennis player as well, found himself in the spotlight when it was reported he had been secretly filming opponent Novak Djokovic in training, which son Carlos admitted was “probably true”.

Alcaraz is planning to build a new home for his parents with the millions he has earned in Wimbledon and other prize money and sponsorship deals.

He is buying three plots of land where he intends to build two villas just a 15-minute drive from the current family home.
