RICS is to launch a new member app, describing it as a major milestone in its digital transformation as demand for AI standards gathers pace across the surveying profession.

The app, now in its final development phase, will give members a simplified way to log CPD under the updated framework, manage personal information and access a new digital membership card. RICS says member feedback has informed every stage of development and that the app will evolve to unlock additional value.

Modernisation

The industry body has also stepped up its work on artificial intelligence. This year, it published Responsible use of artificial intelligence in surveying practice, the first formal industry standard designed to help surveyors use emerging tools while maintaining ethical oversight.

New valuation guidance responding to AI-driven methodologies is already in development as part of a wider package of standards and research due in 2026, including a flagship report on the global housing crisis.

RICS Chief Executive Justin Young said the organisation’s focus is on initiatives that “deliver even greater value for our members” as the profession faces rapid change. More than 20 standards and 50 research reports were issued this year, spanning sustainability, fire safety, damp and mould, alongside updated consumer guidance.

With an independent governance review now underway, Young thanked outgoing Chair Martin Samworth for guiding RICS through a period of major reform, and said the institution is now focused on the next phase of its modernisation.
