Cardiff and Penarth estate agents Jeffrey Ross’s Christmas message to clients seems to be taking on a life of its own after its Insta reel – a spoof cover of the East 17 classic Stay – attracted the attention of original band member Terry Coldwell.

In the short video Director Elliot Hooper-Nash is filmed in his car calling Ricky Mainwaring and Hannah Davies from the Jeffrey Ross marketing team.

“Guys, following on from our Christmas meeting I’ve just had an idea. Seens as we’re number one in Cardiff and the Vale, let’s do a Christmas Number One,” he says talking to a clearly exasperated Mainwaring.

“Hear me out,” he adds, as the film then cuts to a dream sequence featuring the Jeffrey Ross management team (main picture) as East 17 in their 1994 Christmas Number One, Stay.

As the team swirl around just like in the original video the first lines of the song play over… before coming to a somewhat abrupt end.

Baby if you’ve got to go away. Don’t think I could take the pain (Stay now). Won’t you stay another day?… cue really loud record scratch before Mainwaring pipes up ‘Absolutely not!’ while shaking his head as Davies raises her arms in a what the heck fashion before the film cuts to a simple ‘Merry Christmas’ message from not quite ‘everyone’ at the firm.

Marketing: Absolutely not.

So far the video, featuring Commercial Head Lou Quinn, Owner Ross Hooper-Nash, Director Jon Hooper-Nash as well has Elliot, has racked up nearly 11,000 views and also caught the attention of original and existing East 17 band member Terry Coldwell.

Elliot told The Neg: “We have been blown away by the response and in the first 48 hours has already seen our video hit 10,000 views and over 228 likes – which is a record for us by a mile!

“The most surprising element is that the band themselves liked, shared and commented on our video!”

A BIT DIFFERENT

“We wanted to do something a bit different and poke fun at ourselves whilst celebrating the milestone of being the number one agent in Cardiff and the Vale.

“I have a lot of these ideas that don’t tend to get to creative as they always shoot me down. But I was adamant on this occasion that we had to recreate one of the most memorable pop videos in history!”

And he adds: “I even made the costumes for us all by buying 95p plastic coasts from China along with hot glue to attach the white fur to the hoods! As I simply couldn’t find four large white coats for men with fur hoods!

“Terry Coldwell (that I play on the left) commented, liked and shared the clip to his story. Then the band (who have Merry Quitmas out now) also commented.”

Brother Jon Hooper-Nash was equally ecstatic, telling The Neg: “I’ve now won at life!”
