An independent lettings agency specialising in holiday homes has bought a competitor for an undisclosed sum.
Cornish firm Finest Retreats, which is based in Roche between Bodmin and St Austell and was established in 2016, has bought competitor Forgotten Corner Holiday Cottages, adding dozens of properties to its portfolio.

Forgotten Corner, a name that refers to the eye-popping Rame Peninsula hugely popular with ‘staycation’ and foreign holiday makers, will continue to trade from its existing branch in the town of Kingsland and retain its brand name.

Harry Taylor, the former owner of Forgotten Corner, says: “Rosie [Hewlings] and I are immensely proud of what we built and the personal relationships we cultivated since we launched in 2018.

Pass the baton

“When we decided it was time to pass the baton, we knew we needed a local, independent operator who shared our owner-first philosophy.

“Having worked with Richard Bond and the Finest Retreats team (main image) for several years, we were confident they were the right fit.

“Now, seeing how well the integration has gone and how happy our owners are, we know we made the right decision.”

Taylor also runs a property sales business from the same address as Forgotten Corner, called Notman & Taylor.

First acquisition

Bond adds: “Our first acquisition has been a big step for us. We wanted to make sure we sustained the wonderful management Forgotten Corner’s property owners valued, whilst retaining that independent, local presence.

Finest Retreats always puts property owners first so we’ve spent a lot of time getting to know them all.

The announcement of the acquisition, which took place this summer, was delayed ensuring all the property owners were aware of the change prior to going public and coincides with a brand refresh for Finest Retreats and a new website.
