Property auctioneer makes extreme marathon bid
Seasoned property auctioneer, Paul Fosh, is aiming to raise money for a homelessness charity by conquering the Yukon Ultra Marathon.
Paul Fosh, well-known property auctioneer, but also an extreme athlete, is planning to take on the Yukon Ultra Marathon to raise £3,000 for Wales homelessness charity, Llamau.
Dubbed one of the world’s most testing and gruelling of all endurance competitions, the Montane Yukon Arctic Ultra is a 12-day event spanning 340 kilometres of the Canadian Arctic wastelands.
Currently in training ahead of the February event, 58-year-old Paul is dragging harnessed tyres behind him to replicate the weight of the pulk, or sled, that he will be hauling across packed ice, loose snow and blizzard conditions in temperatures as low as -40 centigrade.
The married father of four from Monmouthshire said: “This adventure isn’t just about me conquering the cold. I’m raising money for Llamau, an organisation doing incredible work to make sure no young person or vulnerable woman should ever have to experience homelessness. Their dedication to supporting everyone as an individual truly inspires me, and I want to do my part to help them continue their mission.
“Let’s be honest, I thrive on a challenge. Those of you who know me can attest to that! I’ve always pushed myself, and this Arctic Ultra feels like the ultimate test.”
Off grid but always online
Since Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions went totally online at the start of the pandemic, Paul says it has been easier to prepare for personal challenges.
“Through the wonders of modern technology, social media and the like, I am never out of contact,” he commented. “The fact that I no longer have to stand up in person in front of bidders at a ballroom auction these days, but operate completely online, is also a bonus.”
The Montane Yukon Arctic Ultra 2025 take place from 2nd to 14th February. You can follow Paul’s training progress and make a donation here.
