Brave estate agent tackles axe-wielding store assailant
Lettings agent was one of two members of the public who dragged the attacker off a heavily bleeding store manager.
An estate agent in south London has described how he helped deal with a frenzied axe attack by a member of the public within a store next to his agency.
The agent (pictured), who works as a lettings agent at a Crystal Palace branch for a large chain and wishes to remain anonymous, happened to be in a nearby Poundstretcher when the incident took place.
He told local media he was in the store when an argument between the store manager and a customer requesting a refund began to escalate.
Moments later the store manager was being attacked by the customer and had been stabbed, and Naude says the store was soon covered in blood.
“I managed to get the attacker off him and just wanted to make sure he was ok,” the agent told My London.
“He would have done that [the same] for anyone. He is a nice, level-headed guy who takes pride in his work, so this is a bit alarming.
“There were lots of female staff and children looking a bit traumatised.”
The attacker then fled the store and is now being sought by police, who say the store manager had ‘significant’ injuries to his hands and face.
Poundstretcher recent stopped selling knives years ago as part of its efforts to reduce stabbings in the capital.
“Knife crime continues to be a serious issue in London and as a company we have implemented policies and procedures to help safeguard our employees,” a company statement says.
