Clive Emson reports £20m in sales

In its latest auction, Clive Emson recorded more than £20m in sales and just under 80 per cent success rate across southern England.

Highlights included a derelict four-bedroom house in Fareham (right) which received 80 bids and sold for £112,000 above the £170,000-plus guide price.

A period cottage in Wormingford, near Colchester in Essex, was purchased for £200,000 and three derelict cottages in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire sold for £122,000.

Currently let at £24,140 per annum, a mixed commercial and residential investment at Seaside, Eastbourne, East Sussex, fetched £300,000 and a large private residence in Rochester, Kent, was acquired for £750,000.

On the commercial side, a plot of land at Catford, London, which attracted 90 bids and went for £280,000, which was £180,000 above estimate and in an executors’ sale, a compound of 14 garages in Canterbury, Kent, was acquired for more than double the guide price of £150,000+ (£330,000).

James Emson, Clive Emson’s Managing Director, said: “Investor appetite resulted in £20m-plus in sales in our third auction of eight this year, with an 80 per cent success rate on the 135 lots listed from Essex to Cornwall.

“During the pandemic we have sold, at auction, more than 80 per cent of the properties above our clients’ reserve prices. Transparency and speed of the auction process is a major draw.”
