Coronavirus advice: ‘Stand six feet from clients when visiting properties’
Extraordinary but perhaps sensible advice is given to inventory clerks by their national association chief as first death is reported in UK.
Property industry staff are being advised to carry hand sanitisers around with them when visiting properties and to keep at least six feet away from clients, a new industry Coronavirus guide has revealed.
The guidance is not for estate agents but aimed at inventory clerks, although the advice is a taster of things to come as the Coronavirus pandemic spreads to the UK.
Last night the first death attributed to the virus, an elderly man with underlying health problems who died after being admitted to hospital in Berkshire as health officials advised the public to use elbow bumps (pictured) instead of hand shakes.
“We have been asked by some members how they should carry out property inventories across the UK whilst trying to stay healthy,” says Danny Zane, the chair of The Association of Independent Inventory Clerks.
Sales and letting agents may get an odd greeting from inventory clerks when attending properties– the AIIC recommends its members wear gloves, carry soap or hand sanitisers with them, keep a safe distance ‘without appearing rude’ and not to shake hands.
“We know our members value their clients and their safety as we do our members and their families,” says Zane.
“As we are all aware there is no reason or benefit to panicking but solid advice and how to work in safe environments each day is very helpful and not always obvious
“Most importantly, if you feel unwell or have any of the symptoms, stay at home and keep away from others. Watch out for coughs, a high temperature, shortness of breath and dial 111 to talk to your medical services if you feel the need or require any advice.”
