Former negotiator’s revolutionary conveyancing service ‘gaining traction’
Armed with £100,000 from a recent crowdfunding campaign, Alex Beagrie says ExchangeTrain is proving almost too much of a hit with home movers.
A young former sales negotiator who set up a platform to disrupt the traditional system of conveyancing panel providers in the middle of the pandemic says his platform is proving almost too much of a success.
25-year-old Alex Beagrie, who The Negotiator interviewed a year ago and whose firm narrowly missed winning a Lloyds Bank business excellence award this week, says his main worry back then was how to attract the home moving public direct to his site, not how to onboard solicitors.
“The reality was the complete opposite – we’ve had huge traffic to our website but it’s been onboarding solicitors that has been the challenge – which we’ve now solved with a two-click quoting system.
ExchangeTrain hopes to do for conveyancing what CompareTheMarket did for the insurance industry by helping home movers find a conveyancer best matched to their type of property, area, budget and house price.
Matchmaking
“We’ve spent the past six months getting feedback from both solicitors and home movers, and the results are our new matchmaking system that uses a points-based system to determine the best provider for each customer based on price, reviews, location and speed of transaction,” he says.
“This helps us narrow down solicitor selection much more easily and offer a much more tailored service.”
Beagrie says this means his service now has one of the best conversion rates among the comparison websites because his platform is not just ‘pumping out leads’ willy nilly.
Beagrie, who launched an oversubscribed crowdfunding bid for his business in February, has spent the money completing development work on his platform, including a system that enables property searches to be ordered directly from his platform once a conveyancer has been instructed.
Not very clear what the USP of this service is. What exactly is novel about yet another conveyancing onboarding platform – they tend to be released about once a week. With 28,000 estate agents in the UK and over 5000 conveyancing law firms, it will take a while for one platform to become dominant 😀
