According to Rightmove it is currently taking 59 days to find a buyer, but new research suggests the process can be accelerated – by home staging.

Andy Haynes, a consultant who works with furniture supplier ScS, claims dressing your home could help sell it faster. Home staging is a trend that first appeared in America but it’s catching on in the UK too, with nearly three-quarters (74%) of sellers now considering it, according to ScS research.

Influential

Haynes says: “Well-staged and designed homes tend to attract more interest, leading to quicker offers. In a competitive market, buyers often have many options, so presenting a home in its best light can help it stand out. Additionally, homes that feel move-in ready can ease buyers’ minds, making them more willing to make an offer without unnecessary delays.”

“While every room has its importance, focusing on key areas like the living room, kitchen, and master bedroom can yield the best results. The living room is often the heart of the home, so staging it to feel warm and inviting is crucial.

These areas collectively help convey a lifestyle that buyers aspire to.”

He adds that although buyers can mostly look past the furniture to see the home’s layout, room size and potential, according to a study by ScS, 73% said that the current owner’s design and furniture influence their perception of the house.

“Furniture and design are influential in setting the mood of a space. When a home is thoughtfully decorated, it showcases the property’s potential and personality. Buyers often make snap judgments based on visual suggestions, which is why staging is so effective.

ScS is one of the UK’s largest retailers of upholstered furniture, with 101 stores nationwide.
