Estate agents invited to pedal ‘around the world’ for Ukraine fund raiser

Fine & Country says both staff and agents from competitor firms can help pedal 40,075 kilometres in 80 days for its Foundation's Ukraine efforts.

Estate agents with a penchant for lycra are being invited to take part in the Great British Property Cycle which will see industry pedallers cycle a combined 40,070km in 80 days – the circumference of the earth, for a Ukraine fundraiser.

It’s being organised by the Fine & Country Foundation and is called, naturally, the Around the World in 80 Days Challenge, although those without bikes will be able to contribute by walking, running or swimming.

F&C agents and their friends and family are joining the fray, but the rest of the industry is being urged to either join in and/or donate, funds from which will be employed to help fund relief for Ukraine citizens impacted by Russia’s barbaric invasion of their nation.

The Foundation has already donated £15,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee, which so far has received £260 million from UK donations.

The F&C fundraising event is ten years since the first Great British Property Cycle which was held for three years in a row and raised some £30,000 each time for UK charities. This year’s event will run from April until the end of June.

Remarkable

Jon Cooke (pictured), Trustee of The Fine & Country Foundation, says: “We have a lot of agents and offices that hold their own fundraising events and have done remarkable things for The Foundation over the years.

“This year we wanted to do something together as a group on an international scale that would help to raise funds for The Foundation to ensure that we can help as many people as possible in our upcoming grant schemes.

“We announced the initiative at the recent Fine & Country conference and have had a flurry of agents who have signed up and are eager to lace up their running shoes and get moving.”

Unsurprisingly, an element of competition is being introduced. Cooke says that all the kilometres travelled for the challenge will be tracked on a fittest app, which will have a leaderboard of who is clocking up the biggest distance.

“You don’t find yourself in the property sector unless you have a competitive nature. It will be interesting to see how the challenge motivates people to go that much further, and all for a good cause, which will surely add more to the tank,” he adds.

A JustGiving page has been set up for the challenge to assist participants with fundraising.
