Spicerhaart takes giant strides towards Disneyland
Fundraisers for Spicerhaart charity, Magic Moments, will take part in a half marathon around London to raise money for a dream Disneyland trip for children.
After months in lockdown, Spicerhaart fundraisers are finally stepping forward again in an attempt to raise thousands of pounds to take children from hospices across the UK on a dream holiday to Disneyland Paris.
Employees, family and friends have signed up for the half marathon around London’s landmarks on July 18 for the organisation’s children’s charity, Magic Moments.
More than 100 people are expected to take on the 13.1-mile route, which passes landmarks including the London Eye, Tower Bridge, Big Ben and The Monument.
The event has been organised by Orion Chapter Managing Director, Steven Williams, who has set a fundraising target of £40,000.
“Not only are we raising funds for a great cause, but I felt it was important, after many months of working from home, to bring our team together and create a sense of camaraderie,” says Steven (pictured).
“We have made it a family-friendly event to ensure everyone can get involved, at their own pace. Some people are planning to walk and bring their dogs!”
Steven has been running 30 miles a week to prepare for the half marathon and at times has run with a friend to share the highs and lows of the past year.
He continued: “Through the various lockdowns, I, like many others have rediscovered running and walking and, as such, I thought I would capitalise on these new-found hobbies of many of my colleagues by organising this incredibly inclusive event.”
Magic Moments are planning two trips to Disneyland Paris in the next 12 months with the goal of taking 10-15 families each time, subject to Covid restrictions and travelling safely.
With trips to Disneyland Paris on hold for the past year, Magic Moments donated iPads and Disney memorabilia to the hospices to help vulnerable families to communicate and allow the children to enjoy a bit of Disney magic.
UPDATE
Over 40 runners and walkers completed the route in July, successfully raising £26,000, which will go towards taking 10-15 families to Disneyland Paris over the next 12 months.
