Clutter genius! Estate agency helps locals with unusual initiative
Hundreds of home owners enjoyed Matt Nicol’s ‘Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ across county with plenty of unwanted items finding new homes.
The weather could not have been better for the first ever “Big Worcestershire Garage Sale” organised by local estate agency Nicol & Co.
Hundreds of people took part as sellers or buyers in the community event on Saturday as around 80 households in more than 45 streets across the county simultaneously decluttered their homes to sell unwanted items.
Fabulous day
Event organiser Matt Nicol (main picture), Managing Director of Nicol & Co, which has offices in Droitwich, Worcester and Malvern, had his own garage sale and at times had up to a dozen people looking to find what bargains they could bag.
Nicol says: “It was a fabulous day and we had great feedback from everyone taking part that they loved doing it.
“They all managed to get rid of plenty of unwanted items, found themselves chatting to loads more neighbours on their drives and in their front gardens than they would normally, plus they all made a little bit of money as well.”
Nicol says that with more than 45 streets signed up and some of those streets having for or five households taking part there were at least 80 garage sales.
Annual event?
And he adds: “This year’s event was very much a pilot.
“We have learned so much about what time of day to start and finish and how to get the message out there.
“Everyone we spoke to said they would take part again – as well as lots of people who said they would have taken part if they had known.
“We will definitely be organising another ‘Big Worcestershire Garage Sale’ next summer!”
