Apprentice talent plus training equals success
With the industry facing regulation, your team will need to be qualified. Start now, train an apprentice, says Chris Stoker-Jones, Director of Vocational Training at Catch 22.
As a result of Lord Best’s report, the housing industry will soon be regulated under the Regulation of Property Agents (RoPA). It will require your team to be qualified to a Level 3 or Level 4 standard (dependant on their job role).
Prepare for this by investing in your team with industry recognised qualifications, creating well rounded, property professionals! At Catch22 we are experts in delivering Housing & Property Management Apprenticeships, having trained over 200 housing professionals in the last twelve months alone!
Benefits of Apprenticeship Training
If your business has experienced growth, and you are planning for further upturns in business, then recruiting apprentices into your workforce is a fantastic way to bring in fresh ideas, energy and diversity. Apprenticeships are an excellent alternative career route to the traditional form of higher education, candidates are interested in gaining new knowledge, skills and behaviours while they train within the industry and increase their experience.
78% of employers said that apprentices helped boost productivity, and three-quarters of employers stated that their product or service improved through the help of apprentices in their workforce. The investment in apprenticeships generate enthusiastic new team members, can increase staff loyalty, and upskill existing team members.
Invest in your current staff
Investment creates loyalty with apprentices, they are more likely to stay at your organisation on completion of an apprenticeship as they will be fully embedded within the company and this in turn reduces staff turnover. Did you know that one in five companies have a former apprentice at board level?
Apprenticeships can streamline your workforce and they give you the flexibility to mould them into your organisational preference and you gain an employee who is eager to progress.
Whilst there is a perception that apprenticeships are largely for young people, apprenticeship training can be used to reskill and upskill your current workforce. Existing employees can gain industry recognised qualifications and boost their motivation as they recognise you are investing in their development.
Apprentices will learn whilst gaining experience which can be constantly applied in their role to increase essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours.
Employer Incentives
Evaluating the cost of apprenticeships is vital for your business.
- If you are a business with a pay bill of over £3m p.a., then you will be paying into the Apprenticeship Levy. If you are not using this on Apprenticeship training, then you are basically handing this back to the Treasury.
- If you are an SME, the Government will pay 95% of the cost of the training. From as little as £200 you could pay for an apprenticeship for one of your team.
Presently, the Government have temporarily increased the Employer Incentives. Up until 30th September 2021, if you recruit an apprentice aged between 16 and 18, you receive £4,000, or £3,000 for apprentices aged 19 and above.
