OnTheMarket founding agent Chestertons signs with ZPG
Chestertons, one of the founding agents of property portal OnTheMarket (OTM) and one of London’s largest branch networks, has returned to Zoopla after a three-year hiatus. Its 32 branches have started listing on ZPG’s two websites with immediate effect as well as continuing to appear on Rightmove and OTM. A spokesperson from OnTheMarket said: “”Chestertons remains a valued and supportive estate agent customer of, and shareholder in, OnTheMarket and indeed has recently chosen to sign a new 5-year listing agreement with us.” Chestertons is one of a growing number of agents now listing on all three platforms after OTM lifted its ‘one other portal rule’ following its listing on the AIM stock market. “We’re excited to be returning to ZPG and having all of Chestertons properties listed on all four of the UK’s main property websites, which will benefit both our customers and our business,” says Allan Collins, CEO of Chestertons. The company, which founded OTM alongside several other high-profile agents including Knight Frank and Savills, is not the only agent to have signed up with or returned to ZPG recently. The portal says a flurry of branches have signed a listings agreement with it in recent weeks including eight…

ZPG fires latest salvo in its ‘signings’ battle with OnTheMarket
The battle between ZPG and OnTheMarket to poach agents off each other kicked off again yesterday when the Zoopla parent company said it had lured 100 new agents back to its purple portal, and signed existing client Chancellors to a new five-year deal. Competition between the two is now fiercer than ever after OnTheMarket (OTM) dropped its ‘one other portal’ rule following its recent AIM flotation, while ZPG is keen to counter OTM’s recent push to sign up small and medium-size agents, which so far has seen several hundred new agents sign up. The larger of the 100 agents on ZPG’s list includes some recent, as well as less recent, returnees including Curchods, Douglas & Gordon and Jones Lang LaSalle in London, Henry Adams in Surrey and Sussex, Morris Marshall & Poole in Wales and Whitakers in Hull. These companies between them have nearly 80 branches plus ZPG says the rest of the returnees are one, two and three branch agents, taking the total number of additional branches now listing with ZPG to 200 or more. ZPG also says the Chancellors Group, which as well as its own branches in London and the Home Counties plus Anscombe & Ringland in…

ZPG claims leads worth £1m from MoveIt for member agents
ZPG’s supplier panel tool MoveIt has generated referrals worth £1m for the company’s agent customers since it was bought by the portal giant in April 2016 as part of its £75 million Property Software Group (PSG) acquisition. PSG launched MoveIt, which was thought up by Portsmouth estate agent Jefferies & Partners during the early noughties but subsequently sold to PSG in 2014, to offer agents a way to access panels of suppliers including conveyancing, financial services and, more recently since uSwitch was acquired by ZPG, utility suppliers. MoveIt offers more than convenience, though – agents receive referral fees when their customers sign up to services sourced through MoveIt and, as sales instructions volumes drop and the lettings fees ban looms, offers agents an opportunity to up-sell products. The MoveIt tool is a clear example of the advantage Zoopla wants to offer agents over its rival Rightmove by creating a portal that offers agents a spectrum of services within the property market. ZPG acquisitions A more recent example of this includes its acquisition of print marketing firm Ravensworth, agents software firm Expert Agent, agent website supplier Technicweb and market data cruncher Hometrack. Commenting on the MoveIt milestone, ZPG Property Services Managing…

Over 800 OnTheMarket agents have returned to ZPG, says Goddard
ZPG has today claimed that 808 branches have returned to its portals over the past two years from rival OnTheMarket.com since Agents Mutual launched it in 2015. And ZPG senior figure Mark Goddard (pictured, left), who heads up its Property Services division, has gone on the attack, saying that agents who spend their marketing budgets on OnTheMarket are doing so “inefficiently”. Recent returnees include 16 agency branches which ZPG says have moved over during the past week, helping increase its returning total by 58 since it last reported on its attempt to persuade agents back from OnTheMarket. This was within its 24th May half-year results. “We do not comment on individual agent relationships but the facts remain the same as they did last week when Zoopla gave a similar update,” says Ian Springett, Chief Executive of Agents’ Mutual (pictured, right). “OnTheMarket.com continues to have a positive material impact on the property portals landscape.” “Many thousands of agents switched from Zoopla/Primelocation to join us. Many thousands of agents continue to support the objectives of the business by creating a genuine alternative portal for consumers and agents alike. Many thousands of agents have not returned to ZPG portals with their advertising budgets…
