Estate agents attending this week’s The Negotiator Conference & Expo at Grosvenor House in London are to see former Chancellor George Osborne in the flesh when he is interviewed on stage by journalist Naga Munchetty.

Osborne, who is reported to be working informally door with current No.11 Downing Street incumbent and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, will be quizzed on a range of subjects by Munchetty and take questions from the floor.

The 51-year-old was David Cameron’s Chancellor and well-known for his housing sector policies that both delighted and annoyed the property industry including the launch of Help to Buy (which closed earlier this year) but also the introduction of the 3% Stamp Duty surcharge on second homes and buy-to-let properties.

The initiatives were introduced during his 2015 and 2016 budget statements and, along with several other measures to encourage first time buyers and the building of affordable homes, led many to label Osborne as the ‘de facto’ housing secretary of state, such were his efforts to increase home ownership.

But after Cameron’s Brexit referendum gamble backfired, Osborne left government to edit London’s The Evening Standard newspaper having previously intended to become a journalist prior to entering politics.

After leaving the paper, more recently he became a partner at Robey Warshaw LLP, a boutique investment bank.

He is also the Chair of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, a not-for-profit organisation he established with business and civic leaders to promote economic development in the North of England. He is a visiting professor at Stanford University.

To see him live register for the conference.
