A major conveyancing firm with six offices in the South West has fallen into administration after a sale of the business fell through.

BLB Solicitors, which has offices in Bristol and Bath, and describes itself as “award-winning”, ceased trading last Thursday.

Cease trading

A pop-up message on the company’s website reads: “We regret to confirm that BLB Solicitors Limited will cease to trade and be placed into administration with effect from midday on 30 April 2026.”

The firm also has offices in Swindon, Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon and Almondsbury, and employs more than 40 solicitors, BBC News reports.

I wouldn’t believe a company that big could go under so quickly.”

Rob Clark, a client who was using BLB to buy a property, told the BBC: “I haven’t got a clue” how it will affect the sale.

“I’m very surprised, I wouldn’t believe a company that big could go under so quickly.”

A letter sent to clients read: “We would strongly recommend that you instruct another firm of solicitors to continue to act on your behalf.”

Short notice

BLB attributed the closure to the “anticipated sale of the business being withdrawn at short notice”.

“Please rest assured we are already in the process of putting your file and documents together to ensure a swift and smooth transfer,” the letter read.

“We are actively engaging with other interested parties and, should a sale be agreed enabling the firm to continue to act for you, we will update you immediately.

“We appreciate this is likely to create additional stress, for which we sincerely apologise.”
