Sexist culture in property industry debated by leading agents
Matt Giggs presented a discussion centred on how women "are escaping the rigged corporate ladder" and glass ceiling.

The ‘glass ceiling’ and how women face discrimination in the property industry were issues debated in a heated discussion involving leading agents.
The latest in the Estate Agent Showdown video cast series presented by Matt Giggs (pictured) examined how ‘women are finally escaping the rigged corporate ladder’.
Sexist culture
Giggs sat down with Ellie Rees, Co-founder of Brickworks (pictured centre), and Alexandra Hearn, EA Director at TAUK (pictured left), to confront the ‘sexist culture’ and “lack of diversity still embedded in the property industry”.
It started as a LinkedIn debate over a male-only mentor group photo, but turned into an exploration of how the industry must evolve to survive.
Dear Sirs
Rees shares the story behind her viral ‘Dear Sirs’ campaign, which forced the Law Society to change its official guidelines.
And Hearn discusses her journey as a young female leader and why she chose the self-employed model to escape the “rigged” corporate ladder.
How the rise of self-employed models is allowing women to control their own destinies, is looked at in detail.
Discriminated
This episode also looks at the ‘motherhood penalties’, and the 71% of women who feel discriminated against by clients, based on gender.
Giggs reflects on his own learning curve regarding how content is framed and why leaders have a responsibility to show “what ‘good’ looks like” beyond the traditional stereotype.
Why traditional models are becoming extinct and ‘dinosaurs’ are now being challenged, and creating a culture where you can take a baby to a valuation, were also discussed.
