Property industry rising star in Sunday Times power list

Hannah Chappatte, who runs Hybr and was interviewed in The Neg recently, is placed on the newspaper's Top 25 Young Power List for 2024.

lettings

Few people from the lettings industry make it onto lists of the most fashionable pop stars, actors and footballers.

But 27-year-old letting agent platform found Hannah Chappatte has achieved that after being included on The Sunday Times’ ‘Young Power List’.

After graduating in 2019 she launched a lettings platform for students and ‘first time renters’ called Hybr which has so far helped some 30,000 students find accommodation.

Her business is busy in the student accommodation market and includes those studying at some of London’s most high profile universities such as the LSE and UCL, but also covers Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield.

“The word hibernate means a place of safety from the chaos of the world, and that’s really what we’re creating here,” she told the paper.

Chappatte spoke to The Neg in January, telling us that she had raised £3.24 million so far to fund her business start-up, which is seeking to work with agents.

Lettings pre-qualification

“One way to describe Hybr is as an Airbnb-style service but for long-term first-time renters that offers a better way to filter and help prospective tenants,” she said.

“We help increase the profitability of agents because Hybr streamlines and automates the pre-qualification of tenants.”

Hybr is also getting ready to offer a guarantor system for tenants who come from abroad or low-income backgrounds in the UK.

“It’s unfair that the guarantor system is free for the wealthy who can ask their family to help, and expensive for the poor,” she adds.
