Tom Mundy, co-founder of Goodlord, a leader in rent-tech software, has stepped down. He started the company with co-founder Richard White in 2014. He leaves the business with over 200 employees and a turnover in 2021, of £11.2m.

Starting from a simple app, the company has built an impressive tenant onboarding platform and has an insurance arm. Goodlord acquired tenant referencing company Vouch in 2020, Acasa (bill management software) in 2021 and Halo a moving app for tenants, earlier this year.

New challenges

Mundy gives up the post of Chief Operating Officer to “explore new challenges”. His co-founder, Richard White, stepped down as CEO in 2017, though he retains a title of President of the business, which is now run by tech entrepreneur William Reeve.

Commenting on his departure, Mundy said, “It was an honour and privilege to help grow Goodlord over its first nine years. From the kernel of ambition to make renting better for all, to the UK’s fastest growing RentTech platform; it’s been quite the journey.

I look back at my time at Goodlord with nothing but fondness and wish the whole team the best.”

Venture capital backing

Goodlord has had its ups and downs, expanding very quickly driven by venture capital, leading to a significant round of redundancies following Reeve’s appointment. Last year it benefited from a £27m of private equity investment with two VC’s involved to date.

Goodlord posted losses of just over £4m (2020 £6.9m), in its last published accounts to August 2021 on a turnover of £11.2m. Wages and salaries amounted to just under £10m.

“Thanks to the talent we have across our team and the strength of our business, we are past the point where anybody is irreplaceable, but Tom will certainly be a hard act to follow.”
