House valuations? They’re child’s play… claim viewing group

Seven children value house in Leeds at between £12 and £969,000 during public viewing day at new homes development.

It’s often claimed by those outside the industry that house valuations are ‘child’s play’, particularly when there’s so much Zoopla data available for free online.

But footage of young children trying to determine the value of a newbuild property in Leeds has proved this to be wildly inaccurate, predictably.

Property buying firm Good Move, which videoed the troop of children during a viewing day at developer Strata Homes’ Kentmere Approach site in the city, says it’s nice to see how disconnected from the financial world children can be.

The seven kids, who are aged between four and twelve, were asked both their opinion about the property, as well as its likely value.

Advertised ‘from £220,000’, the “very expensive” houses at the development were valued by one young boy at £10 which he says is ‘a lot of money’.

Three other children were nearer the mark at £126,000 although one corrected her friend to say £1,057, while the youngest guessed £21.

Two bewildered young girls at the end of the video (main picture) put in a strong guess at £100. The last estimate will surprise, though, at £969,000.

Nima Ghasri, a director at Good Move, says: “With more people moving home this past year than ever before, we wanted to see what children across the UK really think when it comes to homes. We wanted to see how much they think it costs, what changes they’d make and if they could see themselves living there – and we haven’t been disappointed with their responses!
