James Stevens – licensed to fly
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, are becoming a key asset to estate agents, enabling stunning aerial photography and videos, enhancing particulars for more successful marketing.
But there are safety rules, underpinned by UK law and anyone flying a drone for commercial purposes is required to obtain a licence from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
James Stevens, owner of Stevens’ Estate Agents in Okehampton, attended an intensive three day course, a theory exam and a flight test to become qualified and obtain permission from the CAA to fly a drone. James says, “I know of others in the area that operate drones commercially without a licence – or, therefore, insurance. They are endangering the people and property below their aircraft. Aerial photography can make all the difference to the marketing of a property but it needs to be done safely, with the appropriate licence and insurance.”
