The prime suspect in the murder of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh is reported to be close to death in prison.

John Cannan, who is 68, is receiving end-of-life care at Full Sutton Prison in east Yorkshire, according to the Daily Mirror newspaper.

Suzy disappeared in 1986 after leaving the office to attend a property viewing in Fulham, west London with a ‘Mr Kipper’ and no one has been convicted of her murder.

Her brother Richard (pictured) told the Mirror he wanted Cannan to reveal where Suzy’s body is before he dies, so the family can finally know what happened to her.

Cannan has been serving a life sentence for the murder of a woman from Bristol in 1987, as well as the attempted abduction of another woman and the rape of a third woman.

Mr Lamplugh previously asked police to interview another murderer, Steve Wright, who is known as the ‘Suffolk Strangler’ for killing five prostitutes, as he knew Suzy from a time when they worked on the QE2 cruise liner.

It is now 36 years since Suzy disappeared and the trust, which works on several fronts to improve safety for women at work and elsewhere, interviewed Richard Lamplugh, whose mother – until her death in 2011 – was instrumental in turning the legacy of her death into something positive. Lamplugh’s father, Paul, died in 2018.
