Letting agent wins £12,000 payout for discrimination and unpaid wages
Kerry Anderson, who worked for Tyche Estates in the North East, has been awarded the cash by an Employment Tribunal.
A lettings manager has won a payout of more than £12,000 from her former employer for discrimination and failing to pay wages during a pregnancy.
Kerry Anderson (pictured), who now works for a big chain of estate agents in Middlesbrough, was employed part-time by Tyche Estates last year while she was pregnant.
She claimed that Tyche, based in Stockton-on-Tees, failed to pay her properly during the eight months she was there.
‘Injury to feelings’
And an employment tribunal agreed, awarding her £12,302.84 in total, including £7,796 for loss of earnings and £4,000 for ‘injury to feelings’.
The firm, which has now dissolved, failed to pay Anderson when she attended maternity appointments, and when she was absent due to pregnancy-related sickness.
Tyche also failed to make pension contributions for Anderson between May and September 2023, and didn’t pay her fully during her notice period.
Her claim for pregnancy-related discrimination contrary to the Equality Act 2010 is “well founded and succeeds”, the tribunal said.
Sex discrimination
Earlier this year, R&F Properties QS, a property management firm based in London, was ordered to pay a woman who briefly joined its workforce, £90,000 after an employment tribunal found it guilty of discrimination on the grounds of sex.
And last year, estate agency Statons was ordered to pay a property consultant more than £46,600 for disability discrimination and unfair dismissal.
Paige Rose, who worked for the North London agent for nearly seven years, suffered from Crohn’s Disease and had operations to treat the condition.
