Agency behind ‘Say No to Rightmove’ creates in-house team to coordinate national campaign

Acorn Group dedicates half a dozen staff to the cause as CEO Rob Sargent sees a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to weaken the portal's power.

The Acorn Group, the estate agency leading the charge to persuade the industry to ‘Say No to Rightmove’ has a dedicated in-house team of six staff working on the project, it has been revealed.

This considerable expenditure by the company, particularly during the Coronavirus crisis, is a mark of how serious its CEO Rob Sargent (pictured) is about the window of opportunity available to agents to weaken Rightmove’s power.

Sargent has been one of the leading lights in an ongoing campaign to turn the tables on the portal following the fiasco of its initial fees deferment offer following the onset of the Coronavirus crisis.

Earlier this week Sargent chaired a meeting of disparate groups, all with similar goals, during an hour-long online meeting where they all agreed to join forces.

Collective power

All are hoping to either collectively force the portal to reconsider its fees, or are planning to leave the portal entirely. The combined numbers of all the agents involved is expected to reach 3,000 member branches by the end of next week.

These include North London agent Murray Lee and his group of 200+ agents as well as ‘Boycott Rightmove’ organised by Paul Davies of At Home Estates in Horsham and The Revolution of Estate Agency 2020 established by David Thomas of Nottingham’s Liberty Gate Estate Agents.

“This movement is gaining traction,” Murray told his email group last night. “Moving forward I hope this really has turned the tide for estate agency against the portals and we will come out of this better off and stronger for it.”
