Estate agent flies to Spain and back to get property sale over the line
Agents George Gosling and Ross Croucher gain praise for going an extra 3,000 miles to help a couple downsize as their completion window closed.
An estate agency in Hampshire has won praise after completing the ultimate ‘going the extra mile’ marathon for a property vendor client.
Staff from agency Ross Nichols, which has branches in the village of Highcliffe and New Milton between Bournemouth and Southampton, flew to Spain and back to obtain a vital signature needed to get a sale over the line for vendors Arthur and Margaret Faulkner, who ironically are moving just two-and-a-half miles along the coast from Mudeford to Highclifffe.
One of the agency’s staff, branch manager George Gosling (pictured), then drove to Newcastle to drop off the document so that the property sales could complete in time, finishing a round-trip of some 3,000 miles.
The local paper reports that the saga began early on the morning of 9th June when Gosling flew from Bristol to Murcia, then drove 125 miles to a villa where someone in the property chain lived, then motored another 137 miles to Alicante where he took a flight at midnight back to Bristol.
On arrival the then handed the document over to sales manager Ross Croucher who got the document to Newcastle for 9am the next morning, the completion day for the transaction.
48-hour window
Ross told The New Milton Advertiser that his agency had a 48-hour window to get the deal completed and that “if we didn’t get the documents signed, the whole deal would collapse”.
“Our clients, Mr and Mrs Faulkner, are two people in their eighties and the husband is a full-time carer for his wife. They had been waiting months to downsize to a place with no stairs as it was safer for her.
“But they were in a chain which, if this man in Spain did not sign papers in time, would have collapsed – but he couldn’t get back to England.
“So we decided to go out to Spain ourselves then take the documents to Newcastle.”
