Rightmove has built and submitted an app to launch in ChatGPT, it has announced this afternoon.

Rightmove says the app, which is in ChatGPT, will begin as an experiment, designed to understand how consumers want to engage with property in this very early discovery stage, but points strongly to how search will evolve using AI for the portal.

The move comes following Rightmove’s recent launch of its first phase of conversational search on its own platform.

Free and paid versions

Once launched, users of both free and paid versions of ChatGPT will be able to download the Rightmove app via the ChatGPT app directory and then simply address “@Rightmove” in a prompt.

The app will allow users to discover properties across sale and rental, including new homes and built-for-rent properties where relevant, using conversational language directly within the ChatGPT interface.

We will test and learn how ChatGPT users engage in the early stages of their property journey, acting as a stepping stone to the full and comprehensive property search experience.”

Rightmove gives an example of how home searchers will use the app. They would ask: “@Rightmove, I’ve been offered a job in Manchester. Can you suggest good areas to live for a young family, with excellent schools, where I could find a four-bed detached house between £400K – £450K?” ChatGPT will return a carousel of properties that best match what the user is asking for, drawn from Rightmove’s live property listings.

The experience will offer a simplified version of Rightmove’s listing offering, with users directed to Rightmove’s platform to search for full property details, use its bespoke filtering and range of consumer tools and to contact agents and developers.

Learning by consumer interaction

The app in ChatGPT will evolve based on how consumers interact with it, with insights informing future developments across the range of Rightmove’s AI-powered search and other consumer and partner tools.

Earlier this month, Rightmove launched a beta version of its own conversational search on-site, helping home-movers describe what they’re looking for in their own words and with access to all the tools directly on its platform. This followed the introduction of ‘AI Keywords’ search feature on mobile apps and ‘Style with AI’ that lets people visualise the potential of a property, which both launched back in 2025.

  1. Utterly ridiculous, whilst I admire Rightmove’s determination to remain a relevant player it is reliant on Agents paying thousands of pounds a month to remain on the portal, what if other portals come along and link with Chat but charge agents £50 a month, agents will slip away from RM, the more that do the less relevant they become and why would a consumer use the RM app if it was not showing all the houses on the market in a given area. The game is up….

    1. Agents just need to start telling all their clients and customers, sellers and buyers how to search for property. Just tell them “Don’t bother with portals anymore they’re to clunky and inaccurate, use AI chatbots and you’ll get a much more exact and better search return”.

  2. You can do this by just typing in that exact search on Google AI now. This is what you get.https://www.google.com/search?q=I’ve+been+offered+a+job+in+Manchester.+Can+you+suggest+good+areas+to+live+for+a+young+family%2C+with+excellent+schools%2C+where+I+could+find+a+four-bed+detached+house+between+£400K+–+£450K%3F”&client=safari&hs=hFkU&sca_esv=dbb6f4e1ffc1e896&sxsrf=ANbL-n6r5kkEko4PaztdOD5e610uj_jocg%3A1771950102966&source=hp&ei=FtCdaY6ZOaexhbIPsqTwqQk&iflsig=AFdpzrgAAAAAaZ3eJthLmYuVFotaapHcXmoqU8Fauxax&aep=22&ved=0ahUKEwiO_MfDxPKSAxWnWEEAHTISPJUQteYPCBk&oq=&gs_lp=Egdnd3Mtd2l6IgAyBxAjGOoCGCcyBxAjGOoCGCcyBxAjGOoCGCcyBxAjGOoCGCcyBxAjGOoCGCcyBxAjGOoCGCcyBxAjGOoCGCcyBxAjGOoCGCcyBxAjGOoCGCcyBxAjGOoCGCdIjEVQAFgAcAF4AJABAJgBAKABAKoBALgBAcgBAPgBApgCAaACB6gCCpgDB_EFACiGpA9QG6WSBwExoAcAsgcAuAcAwgcDMi0xyAcFgAgB&sclient=gws-wiz&udm=50&mstk=AUtExfBBUL1p2x3jC2jZWkYGybkAvpsPLAn_tUAJ4hl0yhD2R3xG4aHr_z5eiLALbzAPT7ipoVLFECMP09fQuoAGzaQoq7e1OmlAgoJdbGeNnZQ3kjrSzs6iTcRXggSaGhp_DgHw-RLy9kFvZnUP4WOcIwmME7vi5g85SbpbtA5NiskuRp-Wdax9l_jO3ZyInnmRX5tfPGLfz5RidfpciF1bhCfsFO2UqrOAidxitnBC-7Q76Gef-8muzrLZpDFCaWGPy8ca7_tsFfHxEGMZ2bkHJNw4AojS7iP3MKw&csuir=1&mtid=P9CdaZXsK4yEhbIPvKeoqAQ
You can then just type in find me properties and it does just that. TRY IT.
RM is a thing of the past and the quicker agents educate sellers and buyers the better it will be for them.
What agents need to do now is focus on their own websites and make sure their SEO is on point for these searches so AI bots will then take searches directly to them.
