Boom! Branches sold 13 properties each in July, extraordinary figures reveal

Trade association says last month was the busiest for sales agents for 13 years as the market continues its astonishing boom.

Agents sold 13 properties per branch on average during July, the highest figures since 2007, it has been reported by Propertymark.

This represents a 44% increase compared to the same month last year. Its figures also show that one in ten properties sold for more than the original asking prices as demand jumped by 12% month-on-month.

The extraordinary figures keep coming – the number of house hunters registered at each member’s branch increased by 13% month-on-month and 35% year-on-year.

Also, the number of properties available per member branch stood at 43 in July, increasing from 37 in June.

Mark Hayward image“It’s positive to see the market continuing to boom with clear interest from both buyers and sellers,” says Mark Hayward, outgoing Chief Executive of NAEA Propertymark.

“Usually we would expect to see a lull in activity during the summer months; but demand remains unabated with no signs that this will not continue.

“With the recent stamp duty holiday announcement, we expect the housing market to remain busy throughout the rest of the summer.”

Such feverish property market activity is also driving down time to sell, data released by Zoopla reveals.

It says properties are selling nearly two weeks faster now in comparison to the same period last year (13 May to 13 August 2020).

The time to sell a home has reduced across all UK regions and countries; this has been driven an imbalance between supply and demand, with the average time to sell a property since the lockdown restrictions were lifted now 31% lower than the same period 12 months before.
