World’s worst estate agent returns to Channel 4
Second series of comedy Stath Lets is to start at at 10pm tonight and tackles several real-life issues including proptech and letting agencies selling out to rivals in a tough market.
Stath Lets, the BAFTA-nominated Channel 4 TV comedy about the ‘world’s worst estate agent’ and those who work with him at his family firm Michael & Eagle in North London is due to start its second series this evening at 10pm.
The six-part series was commissioned after the success of the first, which was aired last year, but not all letting agents have liked its critical portrayal of the day-to-day operations of a agency, even if it is fictitious.
Stath Lets features the eponymous central character played by the show’s co-creator Jamie Demetriou who portrays him as stupid, incompetent and socially inept.
But several of the themes featured in the first episode will be familiar to real-life agents.
Digital future
In the first series of Stath Lets, which is owned and run by Stath’s family, is revealed to have been sold to a rival, who attempts to drag the business into the digital future.
His office also highlights several real-life branch practices including ringing a bell when a property is let, and hot competition among staff to answer phones the quickest.
The first episode features several sticky situations familiar to real-life agents too including Stath attempting to steal the viewing of a rival colleague and then not knowing the security alarm de-activation code for the flat.
“The world of lettings just lends itself to character comedy,” says Katy Wix, who plays one of Stath’s colleagues, Carole.
“Lettings agents are just really on, they have this fake chumminess with the clients, the whole set-up of viewing lends itself to these characters revealing what idiots they are.”
