The Negotiator Conference & Expo 2019
The grand halls and corridors of London’s Grosvenor Hotel on Park Lane were buzzing with hundreds of delegates, speakers and exhibitors on the 29th November 2019, as they arrived to join The Negotiator Conference 2019. In this stunning venue, with a reputation for first class guest speakers and panel sessions offering hard hitting debate between property leaders such as Michael Stoop, Nick Leeming, Lucy Morton, Lord Best, Peter Bolton King and David Cox (plus many more), The Negotiator Conference stage was ready. Lord Best drew gasps from the audience when he suggested that the end of the small or ‘accidental’ landlord is nigh, that the PRS will increasingly be supplied by larger-portfolio operators. The focus was the property industry in 2020 – exploring what the future holds for sales and letting agents in today’s volatile business environment, including Brexit, regulation, customer hesitation, technology, online agents, diminishing high street footfall, taxation, money laundering, tenant fees and (the then) looming General Election. Brilliantly chaired by The Times columnist Lord Daniel Finkelstein OBE, speakers included leading estate agency senior management, industry consultants, analysts, regulators, industry association chiefs and tech innovators. Going to conferences is more than just listening to debates and, as ever…

Senior industry figure Nick Leeming steps down from Belvoir board
Senior industry figure Nick Leeming has stepped down from his position as a non-executive director at franchised lettings giant Belvoir after five years on the company’s board. Nick has helped steer Belvoir through a turbulent five-year period since it floated on the AIM stock market, raising £7 million to fund an aggressive expansion programme and, last year, an attempt to merge with The Property Franchise Group (TPFG), parent company of Martin & Co. He joined the Belvoir board after stepping down from a senior role at portal Zoopla. As well as his work for Belvoir, Nick has been Chairman of Jackson-Stops since 2013 and been a regular judge for The Negotiator’s industry awards. Nick, who says he is retiring from his position at Belvoir, will step down on 10th April and be replaced by another industry stalwart, Michael Stoop (pictured, left). Michael has an equally gold-plated and long-standing career within the industry having helped establish Belvoir’s franchising rivals Winkworth and TPFG, and in July last year returning to Winkworth in an advisory role. “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Nick for his considerable contribution since the Group floated on AIM,” says Michael Goddard, Chairman of Belvoir.…

Winkworth about to pass 100-branch milestone
Winkworth says its branch network is about to go past the 100-mark when it opens three new offices during the opening months of this year. This is on top of seven new branches opened last year including colds starts in Cheltenham (pictured, right), Sunningdale and Surbiton in London, three existing agencies converting to the Winkworth brand in Kingsbury (in London) and Dartmouth and Torbay in Devon plus an extra branch for an existing franchisee in Milford-on-Sea in Hampshire. The company also says it has seen an unusually busy period of new enquiries coming in about franchising opportunities – up by 26% year-on-year during 2017. Winkworth’s current expansive activity is down to, in part, the re-hiring of former franchisee Michael Stoop in July who, after 25 years spent away from the firm working for several franchising giants including Martin & Co, is now working for Winkworth as a consultant. “Following the success of last year, we’re putting more emphasis on our expansion over the course of 2018 to ensure we have a strong network of offices supported by some of the most skilled people in the industry,” says Winkworth CEO Dominic Agace (pictured, left). “We’re always on the lookout for experienced…
